Parents are very welcome at St James and make a valuable contribution within the school. The value of this partnership in Education is of great value to the teacher, child and the parent.
Parents are able to assist in many ways including:
Parish Participation – We encourage our parents to be actively involved in the life of our Parish
Parents & Friends Committee
St James Education Board
Resource Centre Helpers
Working Bees / Maintenance Committee
Environmental and Sustainable Projects including Farm Duty
Excursions – From time to time parents are asked by teachers to assist with supervision on excursions/incursions. Organisationally, parents are unable to attend all excursions. Unfortunately parents are unable to bring toddlers if they are in a supervisory capacity.
Swimming/Twilight Sports/Inter School Sport Programs – Each year we have a swimming program and we require parents to assist the children, particularly those in the younger grades in getting ready to and from the pool. The senior children are involved in sports against other schools and parents may assist with training, scoring, umpiring etc.Parents wishing to assist in the school are required to have a current 'Working With Children Check' as well as filling in a volunteer application. Fill in the online form at www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.authen finalise your application at a participating Victorian Australia Post retail outlet. A volunteer application form and a volunteer duty statement (available under 'Forms and Policies' ) must also be handed into the school.
